What is Community Training?

Community Training times are designed for Intermediate and Advanced students to practice skills they’ve learned in workshops and classes, to work on acts, and to explore and create.  While we encourage creative exploration, we have a strict no-peer teaching policy.  There is no formal instruction at Community Trainings, although Hosts are available to take payment and answer any questions.  Hosts have final say in what is appropriate at Community Trainings.

What should I expect?

All classes begin with a dynamic warm-up that includes stretching, cardio, and conditioning.  Classes will review skills introduced in preview classes, offer drills to clarify technique, introduce new materials, and/or pose creative challenges to work on individually or in small groups.  The Factory is a safe and supportive environment that is non-competitive and friendly, and we offer progressions and  variations for all levels.

What should I wear and bring?

For aerial classes, wear leggings, yoga pants, or tights that cover the backs of the knees and either a leotard or a shirt that can be tucked in. Please have hair tied back and remove jewelry before class. Bring a water bottle.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes, private instruction is available for all levels of aerial on silk, rope, trapeze, and lyra, as well as for handstands and acrobatics.

I want to perform!

The Factory produces a Student Showcase about every 6 months to highlight our amazing group of students.  Anyone is welcome to participate, and we encourage students of all levels to be involved.  Watch for updates in The Factory newsletter and on our Facebook page about upcoming Showcases.  The next Showcase will be on November 19th at the Veteran’s Memorial Building. We ask all participants to pay a $25 that goes toward the venue rental and professional lighting design.

The Factory is also home to the contemporary circus and acrobatic ensemble, Aeraflux.  Aeraflux has presented work in Santa Cruz and San Francisco, at the Atlanta Aerial Arts Festival, and at Envision Festival in Costa Rica.  Aeraflux draws upon The Factory’s intermediate/advanced student base to create ensemble work
